Program Description
The sterile processing and distribution technician decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and surgical trays. The technician also manages inventory control, orders supplies, inspects, maintains, delivers and retrieves equipment and instruments for the surgery suite, emergency room and intensive care units. A hands-on clinical practicum experience in an area hospital is included in the course of study.
This program prepares graduates for eligibility for the National Certifying Examination given by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel. Career Ladder: Students may apply credits toward the Surgical Technology program.

The Fast Track course lasts 3 weeks with 120 classroom/training hours --- not 64 hours like what other programs being offered in the bay area. At Cornerstone, we make sure that our training is comprehensive so that an individual will succeed in the certification exam with The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD).
With other programs out in the market, it does not take one month or 40 hours for a student to grasp the overall training and knowledge of Sterile Processing skills. Short term(64 hours) program is not sufficient to achieve the passing score for the certification. It will just set an individual up for failure.
At Cornerstone, we do not set our students up for failure. We provide the tools and the resources for our students to succeed. Our training program allows students to "digest" or process the information slowly and at an extended period of time in order to retain the necessary knowledge and skills.
Therefore, a student taking Cornerstone's SPD Certification program will receive a quality training and education to achieve the success in the certification exam.
Admission Criteria:
1. Must be at least 18 years old
2. Must be a high school graduate or with a GED
3. Pass the background check*
4. Be able to take the drug screening*
